punypng: PNG Image Optimization and Compression

punypng

punypng is a PNG optimization image compression tool that makes PNG, GIF and JPEG images smaller, developed by Gracepoint Fellowship Church. It is the latest in the line of image compression tools. I used to run all of my image through Smush.it but now I use punypng. I’ve found that punypng was able to compress the images a little bit more. However, the one downfall is that there is not a WordPress plugin for punypng yet like there is for Smush.it, WP Smush.it. But one of the highest rated requests is for an API which would allow someone to write a plugin. For now I can manually upload my images to punypng, I’ll be patiently waiting for the release of an API.

The guys that wrote punypng ran some optimization tests on a few different image optimization tools and in the results below you can see that they were able to compress the most without losing any quality. The results may differ for other images, but for the most part using punypng will result in the best optimization.
